03 March 2010 → Old postcard exhibition in Minsk to display Belarus’ townscape
Belarus’ townscape will be featured at an exhibition of old postcards in the Belarusian State Museum of the History of the Great Patriotic War. The project has been worked out jointly with well-known deltiologist, holder of the Spiritual Revival Award of the President of the Republic of Belarus Vladimir Likhodedov, the museum told BelTA.
On 3 March the museum opens a cycle of expositions of the project, In Quest of the Lost, timed to the international sci-tech conference, Cooperation between the State Institutions and Private Collectors in Patriotic Upbringing of the Youth (to the 65th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War).
The project will also include the exhibitions, Belarus. The War Echoes in the Memory of the Generations, Belarus on the Old Postcards of the 19th-early 20th Centuries, Minsk: Time Travel.
The exhibition, Belarus on the Old Postcards of the 19th-early 20th Centuries, will display old postcards with townscapes and architectural sites of the country before the Great Patriotic War. Other postcards will show Polotsk, Belovezhskaya Pushcha, the Naroch krai and Polesie. The exposition comprises ethnographic materials: postcards with Belarus’ nationals of the late 19th-early 20th centuries.
The exhibition, Minsk: Time Travel, will give a chance to make a so-called tour of the Belarusian capital during its different historical periods – in the 19th-20th centuries, in the 1920-1930s, during the Great Patriotic War and the beginning of the 21st century. The visitors will be able to see old streets of the city, its parks, monuments and residents of Minsk from the 19th century up to the present-day.
The photographs from the museum and Vladimir Likhodedov’s collection included into the exhibition, Belarus. The War Echoes in the Memory of the Generations, will reflect the destruction brought by the enemy to the Belarusian land and people during the Great Patriotic War, erased architectural sites and lost cultural heritage of the country.
