21 March 2017 → Delegation from the Polish sister city of Lodz visited Minsk

On March 21, in the cinema "Tsentralny" there was held a meeting with a delegation from the Polish sister city of Lodz, the "Minsk-Novosti" agency reports.

From the Polish side the official part of the ceremony was attended by representatives of the sphere of culture, science, the executive power of Lodz, entrepreneurs, etc. Among the guests there were also Deputy Minister of Culture and National Heritage of Poland Pavel Levandovsky as well as Vice-Mayor of Lodz Krzsztof Pentkovsky.

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Poland to the Republic of Belarus Conrad Pavlik delivered a welcoming speech:

"Today we are witnessing an important event dedicated to supporting the candidacy of the city of Lodz for the holding of EXPO-2022. The main theme of this event will be the development of cities and agglomerations around the world. Probably, there is no other such city in Poland like Lodz because it has revived after so many years of hard existence and become modern and full of life - a real cultural center of the region where representatives of the most diverse nationalities live. In addition, I believe that Lodz and Minsk have much in common therefore the partnership of such similar cities seems natural and promising".

The Ambassador also noted that on March 22 an agreement between the Academy of Fine Arts (Lodz) and the Belarusian State Academy of Arts will be signed.

The main cultural event of the visit was the opening of the poster exhibition "Andrzej Pongowski. Kieslowski in a new way» of the Museum of Cinematography of the city of Lodz in the cinema "Tsentralny". The exhibition is timed to the 20th anniversary of the death of the world-famous Polish director Krzysztof Kieslowski who filmed both documentary and video tapes. He created such pictures as "The Double Life of Veronica", "Decalogue" and the trilogy "Three Colors".

Then, at the event, there was presented a film in support of the city of Lodz to hold EXPO-2022 and short films by Krzysztof Kieslowski.

For reference:

The Belarusian capital and the city of Lodz have been cooperating for 25 years.

In total, Minsk has more than 20 twin cities all over the world.

The Museum of Cinematography of Lodz I is more than 40 years old. This is the only institution in Poland that tells the story of the Polish cinema.
