17 July 2017 → Ambassador of Iceland to Russia got acquainted with the organization of work of the "Open House" in Minsk

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Iceland to the Russian Federation Sigridur Berglind Asgeirsdottir visited the center of the Belarusian Red Cross Society "Open House" on July 17 and got acquainted with the organization of work to support people with mental illnesses, the "Minsk-Novosti" Agency reports.

When they were creating the "Open House" in Minsk, the experience of Iceland was taken as a model. The Red Cross of this country also finances this project.

The Head of the Center of the Belarusian Red Cross Society "Open House" Irina Myalik told Ms. Sigridur Berglind Asgeirsdottir about the successes that had been achieved over the past time in working with beneficiaries (or guests, as they are called here), about the peculiarities of support given to this category of people.

“This morning I had a meeting at your Ministry of Foreign Affairs where I pointed out that the Icelandic Red Cross was very pleased with the cooperation with the Belarusian Red Cross Society” noted the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Iceland to the Russian Federation Sigridur Berglind Asgeirsdottir. “Having personally got acquainted with the work of the "Open House" in Minsk and its guests, I will take away the most pleasant impressions of you and the friendly atmosphere that I have felt here”, she added.

In her personal communication the Ambassador emphasized that in Iceland new forms of assistance to people with mental illnesses had been organized with the participation of her father, which is one of the reasons for her paying special attention to this work of the Red Cross.

The guests of the "Open House" cordially welcomed the guest of honor, told her how much the center and its specialists were giving them to gain confidence in their abilities. And in memory of the visit the beneficiaries presented Mrs. Sigridur Berglind Asgeirsdottir with self-made souvenirs.

For reference:

The "Open House" social project was created in 2013 as part of the Belarusian Red Cross Society "Support for people with mental illnesses" with the assistance of the Icelandic Red Cross in cooperation with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
