23 November 2009 → Second ring road to be build around Minsk

The second ring road that is planned to be built around Minsk will connect two arterial motorways, namely, Moscow-Berlin and Vilnius-Kiev. A corresponding proposal was approved by President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko during a meeting on the Minsk city development prospects.

“The second ring road is badly needed. But the project needs to be examined carefully so that the road would meet all advanced standards. It should be something of an autobahn,” the President said.

According to him, the construction of the new road will help redistribute transit cargo flows, redeploy logistic centers out of the city and reduce air gas pollution.

Chief architect of Minsk Viktor Nikitin reported to the head of state that the first phase of the project envisages the construction of a 50km half-ring road connecting the two motorways: Moscow-Berlin and Vilnius-Kiev
