24 January 2017 → Hotel network in the capital will increase to 60 hotels by 2020

According to the information delivered to the "Minsk-news" agency correspondent at the State Enterprise "Management of Household and Hotel Services" of the Minsk City Executive Committee, by 2020 the hotel network in the capital is projected to increase to 60 hotels accommodating about 14 thousand people.

"In Minsk there are 49 hotels and 6 hostels at present", said the Head of the State Enterprise "Management of Household and Hotel Services of the Minsk City Executive Committee" Yuri Natychko. "They have 5.8 thousand rooms that can accommodate 10.5 thousand guests. In particular, in 2016 three new hotels for five hundred rooms were put into operation In Pobediteley Avenue: the Marriott Minsk Hotel, the «Aqua-Minsk" and the Double Tree by Hilton. Thus, the hotel business in Minsk has been joined by the international operators Hilton and Marriott. It is expected that in the near future there will appear the Novotel, the Mercure, the Sofitel, the Amara Hotel.

According to Yuri Natychko, the demand for hotel accommodation in the capital is largely formed by foreigners coming to Minsk from over 170 countries. At the end of 2015 their share in the total number of guests was about 70%, and in 2016 it became 75%. The number of Belarusians living in hotels in Minsk has decreased. In connection with the opening of new facilities and the increasing capacity of the hotel sector by 7.5%, there has been an increased competition resulting in lower cost of accommodation. In January - September of the last year, the average accommodation cost was at the level of 41.5 dollars, which is by 14.6% less than in 2015. The demand for hotel accommodation has increased too. In 2016 Its average rate was 41% (in 2015 - 40%).

"Today in Minsk work is being done to implement 12 projects on construction of multifunctional complexes with hotels for 3.7 thousand guests" Yuri Natychko continued. "Today in Minsk we have 5.2 hotel rooms for 1 thousand residents. By 2020, this index should increase to 7. At the same time in the capitals of the neighbouring countries this index ranges from 6 to 7.5 hotel rooms per 1 thousand residents (In particular, in Kiev - 6, in Moscow – 7.5).

For reference:
Among the foreigners staying at hotels in Minsk 67% of guests are representatives of the CIS countries, most of them are Russian citizens. As to citizens of other countries, most of them are from Germany (9.7%), China (8.6%), Lithuania (7.9%), Poland (6.2%), Turkey (6.1%).
