On April 11, within the framework of the Days of Budapest, a Belarusian-Hungarian business forum and contact-cooperation exchange with representatives of enterprises of the Republic of Hungary were held in the Minsk branch of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the "Minsk-Novosti" agency reports.
During the event, the parties discussed topical issues of the Belarusian-Hungarian business interaction and the possibility of expanding cooperation between enterprises.
"I hope that after today's event we will have not four enterprises with Hungarian investments, but many more. Business circles must feel comfortable in our countries, which should be of benefit to both states. I am confident that the business forum will give an impetus to the development of economic bilateral relations", said the Chairman of the Minsk City Executive Committee Andrei Shorets.
A welcoming speech was also made by the Chairman of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Vladimir Ulakhovich:
"Today we are not satisfied with the existing trade turnover between our countries but we understand that there is a significant potential for its development. In my opinion, reaching the regional level significantly strengthens cooperation. Yesterday representatives of the Hungarian delegation visited our capital's enterprises and were very impressed with the results of their work. In particular, they managed to get acquainted with the work of Belkommunmash".
During the forum, its participants were offered reports with presentations about the potential and peculiarities of Budapest - the advantages of its geographical location, economy, tourism, sports, etc. They learnt about the financing of export transactions, the prospects for cooperation between Belarus and Hungary, etc.
"As for business cooperation, the city leaders do not directly deal with these issues," Istvan Tarlos, Mayor of Budapest, said. "We give an opportunity to businessmen from different countries to meet with each other and help them arrange contacts through chambers of commerce and industry. In the past two years, the turnover of goods and services between our countries has declined and we are very much concerned about it. We hope that we will be able to change this situation for the better".
The Director of the Department for the Development of Economic Relations with the Countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Budapest Jozer Kovacs named some of the promising areas of business cooperation:
"Traditionally, Hungary has been well known for its agriculture and industry. Of course, Belarus in this sense is also one of the most developed countries in the CIS. Now we are starting to make joint projects in these areas, in particular, in the sphere of cattle breeding. The demand for cattle bred by our geneticists has been very great here. We are also planning to cooperate in the pharmaceutical field - we are going to set up production of some drugs together with our Belarusian colleagues".
