13 April 2017 → Organizers of the Minsk half-marathon - 2017 expect up to 30 thousand participants

The Minsk half-marathon which will be held on September 10 may gather up to 30 thousand participants. As it is reported by the "Minsk-Novosti" correspondent, this information was delivered by the Chairman of the Belarusian Athletics Federation Vadim Devyatovsky at a press conference on the start of registration for the competition on April 13.

"In many ways, this will be facilitated by a five-day visa-free regime for citizens of 80 countries, which has been operating in Belarus since February this year," V. Devyatovsky said. “It will also be facilitated by the fact that in December 2016 the Minsk Half Marathon route received the bronze status of the world ranking of marathons and half-marathons of IAAF Road Race Label Events. This is a guarantee of quality, a signal to professional sportsmen that good conditions for holding a half marathon have been created in Minsk. Taking into account the expected increase in the number of participants, we are planning to make a separate start for those who are going to run 5.5 km and 10.5 km (the first race) and those who venture on running 21 km (the second race). Besides, for the convenience of the runners, we will slightly change the route of the 5.5-kilometer distance. The route maps can be seen on the official half-marathon website”.

It will be recalled that in 2015 the Minsk half-marathon was attended by 16 thousand people (36 countries, 293 foreigners), in 2016 this number grew to 20 thousand (42 countries and 700 participants from abroad).

According to V. Devyatovsky, the prize fund of the Minsk half-marathon will be no less than 25 thousand dollars.

“In the course of its existence, the Minsk half-marathon has become a landmark event not only for the city, but for the whole country, "Andrei Shorets, Chairman of the Minsk City Executive Committee, stressed addressing the conference. “We fully support this event and do everything possible so that each time there can be more and more Minsk residents and guests of the capital willing to participate in the races. This year, the coming half marathon will be one of the main events to be dedicated to the celebration of the 950th anniversary of Minsk”.

The first participant that has registered for the Minsk half-marathon-2017 is the Belarusian athlete Olga Mazuryonok. At the start of the half marathon race, she will have the first number. Olga represented Belarus at the Games in Rio de Janeiro in 2016 and showed a high fifth result in the marathon (42 km). In addition, Mazurevok participated in two Minsk half-marathons - in 2015 and 2016-m. And both times she won among women.

The starting fees remain rather small and vary from 5 rubles (for admission to a 5.5-kilometer distance without an electronic chip) to 28 rubles (21 km with an electronic chip). The registration without issuing a chip includes: obtaining a number, a medal of the finisher, water at the food and finish points and other services to be provided by the organizers.

The registration fee with an electronic chip, among other things, gives the participant an opportunity to see his/her time and place in the general protocol, as well as to get printed the diploma of the participant.

Registration, choice of a distance and payment of the fee can be made on the official website of the half marathon - www.minskhalfmarathon.by.

On preferential terms (without paying a fee) registration for a 5.5-kilometre distance is allowed for students, schoolchildren, pensioners and liquidators of the Chernobyl catastrophe. People with disabilities have the right to be registered free of charge for all types of distances, including 10.5 km and 21 km.
