23 November 2009 → Minsk to session of CIS council of news agencies 23-24 November

Proposals on training of journalists for news agencies will be discussed at the 10th session of the council of state-run news agencies of the CIS member states in Minsk on 23-24 November. Attending the session will be the chiefs of the ITAR-TASS, AzerTAc, Armenpress, BelTA, Kazinform, Ukrinform (as a guest) and the CIS Executive Committee, BelTA learnt from the information and analytical center of the CIS Executive Committee.

The participants of the session will visit the Journalism School of the Belarusian State University.

The participants of the session are set to discuss the events dedicated to the 65th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. In particular, they will discuss a plan of holding the CIS photographic competition in 2010, preparation of the calendar edition, development of a joint web-project dedicated to the celebration of the 65th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War to be hosted by BelTA’s official website. The agenda also includes the issues concerning the participation of the CIS state-run news agencies in the Congress of the World Association of the Russian Press (in Israel in 2010), other photographic competitions and a free access to the Service of the Association of the National News Agencies.

The CIS Council of News Agencies was founded in 1995 by Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia and Tajikistan. The Council initiated the adoption the CIS concept on the CIS information area, an agreement to exchange the materials of the CIS national news agencies as well as the information on natural and manmade catastrophes. The council also developed a convention on the status of a correspondent representing a mass media outlet of a CIS country in other member-states of the Commonwealth.

ITAR-TASS General Director Vitaly Ignatenko is the Chairman of the CIS Council of News Agencies.
