04 December 2009 → Minsk to host Union State Writers Congress

The Founding Congress of the Union of Writers of the Union State is expected to meet in Minsk on 4 December, BelTA learnt from the Union of Writers of Belarus.

This literature organization will give an additional impetus to that considerable joint work carried out the literary societies of Belarus and Russia. It includes joint presentations, meetings between the writers in Moscow and Minsk, festivals of the Russian poetry in Brest, roundtables together with the Information Ministry of Belarus, other events. The first issue of the Belarusian magazine Nyoman was published in 2006. It highlighted modern literature of Belarus and Russia. The new literature organization will promote further expansion of the Belarusian-Russian literature links, the Union of Writers of Belarus stressed.

Partaking in the Congress will be nearly 100 delegates. Among them is Yuri Polyakov, editor-in-chief of the Literaturnaya Gazeta newspaper, Stanislav Kunyayev, laureate of the State Prize of Russia and the Union State Prize, Mikhail Nozhkin, co-chairman of the Union of Writers of Russia, USSR People’s Artist, others.

The creation of the Union was initiated by outstanding writers of Russia and Belarus – Valery Ganichev, Valentin Rasputin, Yegor Isayev, Vladimir Karpov, Nikolai Cherginets, Vladimir Gnilomedov, Ales Savitsky, others.

The idea to organize the forum was supported by the Presidents of the two countries, the Permanent Committee of the Union State, Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, Metropolitan Filaret of Minsk and Slutsk, Patriarchal Exarch of All Belarus.

Representatives of government bodies, creative unions, mass media, public figures, librarians and others have been invited to partake in the forum.
