23 December 2009 → Committee for celebration of Chopin Year set up in Belarus

A committee for the celebration of the Chopin Year has been set up in Belarus, BelTA learnt form Mikhail Kozlovich, chief of the arts department of the Culture Ministry.

Belarus will celebrate the 200th anniversary of the birth of the great Polish composer on a big scale. “Frederick Chopin was a prominent personality, and therefore we could ignore such a big event in the cultural live of the international community,” Mikhail Kozlovich said.

The committees for celebration of the Chopin Year have been created in 40 countries including in Belarus. This country plans to organize several concerts, a series of performance in the Belarusian state philharmonic. Polish professors will hold master classes at Belarusian State Music Academy, and Belarusian musicians will share their experience with students of Warszawa music schools. Belarusian State University of Culture and Arts will host a scientific conference dedicated to Chopin’s oeuvre. The National Library is expected to host a joint Belarusian-Polish opera performance.

The Chopin Year programme in Belarus envisages a number of exhibitions. The first one, Chopin Festival in Placards, took place at the National Museum of History of Belarus on 8 October-1 November 2009. The exhibition opened the programme of events dedicated to Chopin’s 200th anniversary.

During his visit to Belarus, Minister of Culture and National Heritage of Poland Bogdan Zdrojewski gifted the bust of Frederic Chopin to Minsk Arts School No.3 that is named after the great composer.
