04 February 2010 → Minsk makes action plan for 2014 IIHF World Championships

The Minsk City Hall has worked out a plan of action to get prepared for 2014 IIHF World Championships, Yuri Shakola, deputy head of the department of physical education, sports and tourism of the Minsk City Hall, told a press conference on 3 February.

Yuri Shakola noted that the plan envisages the construction of the venues and associated infrastructure with the seating capacity of nearly 35,000. This is the number of people Minsk is expected to receive in 2014, according to the preliminary estimates.

The arrangements which are to be embedded by 2014 include the construction of nearly 15 hotels. At the same time the focus will be made on the construction of new economy-class hotels and upgrading of the existing ones, which are the most popular among the domestic and foreign tourists.

The plan also stipulates the construction of the Chizhovka-Arena, traffic interchanges, parking lots, cultural and entertainment venues, including the Victory Park and the Minsk Zoo (reconstruction).

This large-scale project will be mainly financed by investors. “The facilities that are to be constructed in the capital will be further used for profit-making. Therefore they will be no doubt interesting for the investors,” Yuri Shakola added.
