History of Zavodskoy District is part of history of Minsk City
In the south-eastern outskirts of Minsk which until 1923 had been named Arkhiyereiskaya Roshcha (Bishop Grove) or Krasnoye Urochishche they began to set up plants and factories, which led to the rise of new residential areas. The city was growing.
Taking into account a considerable increase of population in Minsk on 17 March 1938 the Presidium of the Central Executive Committee of the BSSR passed the Decree on the organization of three urban areas in the city of Minsk: Stalinsky, Voroshilovsky and Kaganovichsky Districts.
From 1944 Stalinsky District of Minsk began to develop most intensively and after the Great Patriotic War they decided to create an industrial centre of the capital there. At the end of the forties, last century, it was the first automobile giant plant in the USSR – Minsk Automobile Plant that became the centre of Stalinsky District.
The main property of the district is its people. They are Heroes of Socialist Labour, Honorary Citizens of Minsk, holders of the Order of Labour Glory as well as ordinary labourers, i.e. those who live and work here, use their professional skills, their knowledge and experience in the name of progress and prosperity of our nation.
In terms of volume of the industrial production, production of consumer goods, provision of paid services, supplies of goods for export Zavodskoy District is one of the largest districts not only in Minsk but also in the Republic.
In the district there are such giants of industry as Minsk Automobile Plant, Minsk Bearing Plant, Minsk Wheel Tractor Plant, "MAZ-Kupava" Automobile Trailers and Bodies Plant, JSC "Minskzhelezobeton", JSC "Minskdrev", JSC "Gormolzavod - 2" and others. "Minsk" Free Economic Zone includes about 100 enterprises and companies.
The district is inhabited by about 250 thousand people. In Zavodskoy District there are 113 educational establishments, 72 pre-school institutions, 35 secondary schools, including three gymnasiums, two primary schools, an evening shift school and a boarding school for orphans, a boarding school for children with psychophysical disorder, a children’s home.
Zavodskoy District boasts of wonderful recreation areas, purlieus – the park named after the 50th Anniversary of the Great October and the park named after the 900th Anniversary of Minsk. And the zoo which is the only one in Minsk is of special pride.
Great attention is paid to the development of sports and physical training in Zavodskoy District.
Today Zavodskoy District is rightfully considered to be the pride and glory of the capital. It has become possible due to the tireless work of all those who by their labour, intellectual potential and creativity persistently and responsibly meet the challenges of the development and improvement of the district.
