Tsentralny District of the city of Minsk was founded by the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the BSSR of June 25, 1969.
In accordance with the Decree of the President of the Republic of Belarus of November 11, 2000 No 589 since 1 January 2001 part of the territory of Frunzensky District has been annexed by Tsentralny District.
The district is located in the central part of the city. Its area is 4.1 thousand hectares. The population of the district is 110.9 thousand people, including 27.3 thousand pensioners.
There are 21 industrial enterprises in the district. The largest of them are: "Atlant" Close Corporation, "Milavitsa" Joint Venture, Close Corporation, "Minskkhlebprom" Municipal Unitary Enterprise, "Belorusskiye Oboi" JSC, "Olivariya Brewery" JSC.
At the service of the population there are seven out-patients’ clinics, two hospitals, an endocrinology center, a narcology dispensary. There are dispensaries at industrial enterprises.
At medical institutions of the district health service is given to 116.5 thousand adults, 18.1 thousand children, including 3.3 thousand teenagers.
There are 33 institutions of culture in the district.
There are 3 higher educational establishments in the district: Belarusian State University of Physical Training, Belarusian State Academy of Music, Institute of Parliamentarianism and Business. The district has two special secondary institutions – Minsk Suvorov Military School, Minsk State School of Music named after M.I.Glinka.
