Partizansky Pervomaysky Sovetsky Centralny Frunzensky Moskovsky Oktiabrsky Leninsky Zavodskoy

The first division of Minsk into administrative districts was carried out in 1938. Three districts were set up: Stalinsky (now Zavodskoy), Voroshilovsky (Sovetsky) and Kaganovichsky (Oktyabrsky).

At present the city of Minsk is divided into 9 administrative districts. Frunzensky district, the largest one, comprises such new residential areas as Sukharevo, Krasny Bor and Medvezhino. Leading scientific institutions are located in Pervomaysky district.

The air gates of the city (Airport Minsk-1 and Minsk-2) as well as Railway Station and Tsentralny Bus Terminal are situated in Oktyabrsky district. The largest industrial enterprises (Minsk Tractor Plant, Minsk Automobile Plant, Minsk Bearing Plant, Minsk Motor Plant, etc.) are concentrated in Zavodskoy and Partizansky districts. Sovetsky district is well-known for Komarovsky Market, the Central Department Store (TSUM).

Medical and pedagogical universities, Government House, the building of Minsk City Executive Committee are located in Moskovsky district. The Presidential Residence, The National Library, Minsk Motorcycle and Bicycle Plant "Motovelo" are situated in Leninsky district. Tsentralny district is famous for its historical part of the city: Trinity Suburb, Cathedral, St.Peter and Paul Church, The National Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre, The Academy of Music, the Palace of Republic, the Palace of sports are located here.
