Public health care in Minsk is a complex multilevel system of medical support rendered to its population, which includes 113 medical health institutions of different types.

Today the public health system in Minsk includes 13 in-patient medical institutions for adults, 4 children’s clinical hospitals, 9 dispensaries, the City Maternity Home, 2 children’s rehabilitation centers, a palliative treatment hospital “hospice”, 34 municipal out-patient clinics for adults, 2 ambulatory medical care clinics, 18 children’s policlinics, a consulting and diagnostic center, a plastic surgery and cosmetology center.

A number of health care institutions of Minsk make up the basis of the clinical chairs of Belarusian Medical University, Academy of Post-graduate Education as well republican medical and consulting centers. They have highly-skilled medical specialists, unique medical equipment, which makes it possible to use the up-to-date medical technologies for diagnosing and curing diseases. Medical institutions widely use the latest achievements of medical science. All hospitals of Minsk make up a clinical basis for teaching students at Belarusian Medical University and Academy of Post-graduate Education. On the basis of the hospitals of the city there were set up republican centers at which the citizens of the Republic of Belarus can get specialized medical aid (such as Republican Center of Thyroid Pathology Treatment, Republican Center of Bone Marrow Transplantation, Republican Center of Hand Surgery, Republican Center of Children’ Neurosurgery).

Today medical specialists of narrow profiles practically of all medical institutions of the city are armed with the up-to-date modern diagnostic techniques – from traditional to computer and laser, isotope and ultrasound, which make it possible to interpret the results by using telecommunication technologies and the rapid exchange of information through the local computer network. As a result of the introduction of the newest medical technologies in the surgery of all organs and systems, in the treatment of somatic, social, oncologic and other diseases into medical practice of the capital’s health care system there is practically no need to send citizens of the Republic of Belarus for treatment abroad.

The present network of in-patient hospitals, dispensaries and out-patient institutions make it possible for the health care system of the city to preserve and improve health not only of the citizens of Minsk but also of other regions of the Republic, which undoubtedly contributes to strengthening of the demographic security of the country.
