With regard to the development of physical culture, sport and tourism the policy of local authorities is aimed at ensuring the state-guaranteed right to the citizens of Minsk to go in for sport and lead a healthy life, at meeting their socially-guaranteed needs for services in physical training and health improvement, providing tourist and excursion services, promoting inbound and outbound tourism
335.2 thousand inhabitants of the capital (as compared with 330.6 in 2008) are regularly involved in physical training and sports.
In 2009 the total number of sports facilities in the capital increased by 24 units and reached the figure of 3685 (including 21 stadiums, 694 gyms, 208 swimming pools). The following facilities have been put into operation: the fifth start-up complex of "Minsk-Arena" Multifunctional Sports and Cultural Complex, the first start-up complex of "Solnechnaya Dolina" Mountain-Skiing Centre, a 27-kilometere-long cycle track, "Salkom-Sport" LLC, bowling facilities "Alexandrov Group", "Sparta" fitness club and Oktyabrsky Fitness Center.
