Minsk has an extensive public transport system. The municipal transport includes surface transport (bus, trolleybus, tram, taxi) and underground railway – the metro. At present transport services of residents and guests of the capital are carried out by 240 routes of ground municipal public transport including 169 bus routes, 67 trolleybus routes and 7 tram routes. Daily during weekday rush hours 1.870 units of transport are launched, 34700 routes are put into operation per diem. During the rush hours passengers have 949 buses, 814 trolleybuses and 107 trams at their disposal. Public transport operates a network of 2737.42 km with 1996.6 km dedicated to bus routes, 643,705 km – trolleybus routes, 97.115 km – tram routes.

Minsk is the only city in Belarus with an underground metro system. Construction of metro began in 1977. It has two lines which are 30.316 km long. 1.245 km is operated daily by 49 electric trains (220 underground railway carriages). The first line of the metro which is 12.24 km long has 11 stations. The second one which is 18.076 km long has 14 stations.

Besides, passengers are served by 875 minibuses.

Nowadays, public transport is reliable, accessible, easy and safe to use, comfortable and clean.
