There have already been performed four liver transplantations in Belarus, BelTA learnt from the press service of the Healthcare Ministry. “From April 2008 up to this point, the Belarusian surgeons performed four most difficult operations on liver transplantation in Minsk hospital #9 what brought the national transplantology onto a higher level,” the Healthcare Ministry noted. Locally performed organ and tissue transplantations restrain people from addressing overseas treatment, prevent disablement and reduce the death rate. The first liver transplantation was carried out in Belarus on April 3, 2008. The operation that lasted for 12 hours with the participation of nearly 20 specialists was performed on a 31-year-old man with cirrhosis. The Healthcare Ministry has taken a set of measures to boost the development of efficient specialized medical aid and introduction of the most important worldwide approaches. The country’s first endovascular intervention took place on July 10-11, 2008. The operations were carried out by neurosurgeons of the national scientific and practical center of neurology and neurosurgery jointly with the associates of the Polenov neurosurgery research institute. On July 14-18, Belarusian neurosurgeons with the participation of Turkish Professor Islekel performed the first stereotactic operations on the patients with the most complicated neurologic pathologies in the neurosurgery department of the national scientific and practical center of neurology and neurosurgery. The development of the neurosurgical service in the country, timely training of neurosurgeons including overseas, acquisition of high-technology medical equipment, integration of medical specialists helped introduce the latest technologies and create conditions to perform such difficult operations in Belarus in 2008, the Healthcare Ministry added. |
