Honorary citizens of Minsk
ALFEROV Zhores Ivanovich
15.03.1930

The title "Honorary Citizen of the City of Minsk" was awarded in 2002. In 1947, Alferov Zhores Ivanovich, Belarusian, left Secondary School No. 42 in Minsk, then studied at the Belarusian Polytechnic Institute. He is Vice-President of the USSR Academy of Sciences, Vice-President of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Nobel Prize winner in Physics for 2001.



ANTONOV Ignaty Petrovich
28.12.1922 - 2015

The title "Honorary Citizen of the City of Minsk" was awarded in 1988 (decision of the Minsk City Council of People's Deputies of June 4, 1988). Antonov   Ignaty Petrovich - Professor, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Corresponding Member of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences, Honoured Scientist of the BSSR, Leading Neuropathologist of the Republic, Director of the Belarusian Research Institute of Neurology, Neurosurgery, Neurosurgery and Physical Therapy. Antonov Ignaty Petrovich - a participant in the Great Patriotic War, liberated the city of Minsk as part of a tank platoon commanded by N.I. Kolychev. I. P. Antonov is the author of 8 monographs, more than 400 scientific works, rationalization proposals. In 1978, he was awarded the nominal prize of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR named after V.M. Bekhterev for the best work in the field of neurology. For his services to the Motherland, Ignaty Petrovich Antonov was decorated with the Orders of the Patriotic War of the 1st and 2nd degrees, Order of the Red Star, Order of the Red Banner of Labour, Order of the Friendship of Peoples. He was repeatedly elected deputy of the Minsk City Council of Deputies.



BARASHKIN Dmitry Ivanovich
01.09.1922 - 20.02.2004

The title "Honorary Citizen of the City of Minsk" was awarded in 1968 (decision of the Minsk City Council of Workers' Deputies of December 12, 1968). Barashkin Dmitry Ivanovich - Hero of Socialist Labor, a steelmaker of the Minsk Automobile Plant. During the Great Patriotic War, he fought in the partisan detachment "Progress"; for his courage he was awarded the Order of the Red Star and the medal "Partisan of the Patriotic War" of the II degree. In 1944, D.I. Barashkin, among other partisans, on the permit of the Headquarters of the partisan movement became a worker of the Minsk Automobile Plant. With his participation, the steelmaking furnace was improved, which made it possible to produce more than 6 tons of liquid metal in one melt. Barashkin Dmitry Ivanovich was repeatedly elected Deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the BSSR, awarded the Order of Lenin.



BELOVA Elena Dmitriyevna
28.07.1947

The title "Honorary Citizen of the City of Minsk" was awarded in 2007 by the decision of the Minsk City Executive Committee for a significant contribution to the development of fencing in Minsk. Belova Elena Dmitriyevna - Director of the educational training, advanced training and retraining center "Higher School of Trainers". Belova E.D. - Honoured Master of Sports of the USSR (1968), Honoured Worker of Physical Culture of Belarus (1979), Honoured Coach of Belarus (1994). She graduated from the Minsk Pedagogical Institute (1971),  Higher Party School (1983). She is Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences (1979), Professor (1993). Since 1983, she has been Head of the Chair of Pedagogy and Psychology of the Belarusian State University of Physical Culture. Since 1991, she has been Member of the Executive Committee of the National Olympic Committee of Belarus. Belova E.D. is a Representative of Belarus in the European Association "Women of Europe and Sport"; Champion of the XIX Olympic Games (1968, Mexico City - in the individual and team competitions). At the XX, XXI Olympic Games (1972, Munich, Germany; 1976 Montreal, Canada – member of the Belarusian team; bronze prize winner in the individual competition); silver medalist of the XXII Olympic Games (1980, Moscow - in the team competitions); World Champion (1969, Havana - in the individual competition), (1970, Ankara; 1971, Vienna; 1974, Grenoble, France; 1975 Budapest; 1977, Buenos Aires; 1978, Hamburg, Germany; 1979, Canberra - in the team competition); Silver medalist in the individual competition (1970, Ankara; 1977, Buenos Aires). She is 11-time European champion in the individual and team competitions (1967-1978). 21-time champion of the USSR, Games of the peoples of the USSR, winner of the USSR Cups. She is the winner of the open championship of Austria (1977), international tournaments for the prize "Silver Foil" (1968, 1969, 1972, Como, Italy), tournaments "Gent" (1973, 1974, 1979, Paris), champion of the tournaments "Seven Nations" (1976, 1977, 1978, 1979,  Frankfurt, Germany). For her contribution to the world Olympic movement and high sporting achievements, she was awarded the "Trophy for the 100th anniversary of the IOC for Olympic Ideals" (1994) and the IOC Silver Order (1997). Belova E.D. is a record holder in the number of won gold Olympic medals in rapier fencing among women, included in the Guinness Book of Records.



BIRICH Tatyana Vasilyevna
1904 - 1993

Berich Tatyana Vasilyevna is Hero of Socialist Labour, Corresponding Member of the Academy of Sciences of the BSSR, Honoured Scientist of the BSSR, Honoured Doctor of the BSSR, Professor and Consultant of the Department of Eye Diseases of the Minsk Medical Institute. The title "Honorary Citizen of the City of Minsk" was awarded in 1987 by the decision of the Minsk City Council.



BROVKA Piotr Ustinovich
1905 - 1980

Brovka Piotr Ustinovich is Hero of Socialist Labor, people's poet of the BSSR, academician. The title "Honorary Citizen of the City of Minsk" was awarded in 1980 by the decision of the Minsk City Council.



BULAKHOV Denis Grigoriyevich
1905 - 1984

Bulakhov Denis Grigoriyevich is Hero of Socialist Labor, a former painter of Construction Trust No. 4 The title "Honorary Citizen of the City of Minsk" was awarded in 1967 by the decision of the Minsk City Council.



BURDEYNY Alexey Semionovich
1908 - 1987

Burdeyny Alexey Semionovich is Hero of the Soviet Union, the former Commander of the 2nd Guards’ Armoured Corps, who distinguished himself during the liberation of Minsk from the Nazi invaders. The title "Honorary Citizen of the City of Minsk" was awarded in 1967 by the decision of the Minsk City Council.



VAKHROMEEV Kirill Varfolomeyevich
(Metropolitan of Minsk and Slutsk Filaret, Patriarchal Exarch of All Belarus)

The title "Honorary Citizen of the City of Minsk" was awarded on October 14, 2003 for his great personal contribution to the social life of Minsk, the spiritual revival of the Belarusian society, the development of relations between the church and the state, education in people of mercy and Christian values, the restoration of churches in the city of Minsk. The great merit of Metropolitan Philaret is the consolidation of the Belarusian Orthodox Church, the management of the construction of new churches in Zavodsky, Partizansky and Moskovsky Districts of Minsk. Metropolitan Filaret takes an active part in the cooperation of the Church and the secular education bodies, participates in the development of programs for the Theological Seminary, the Minsk Art Lyceum, the women's non-state gymnasium "Envila". Metropolitan Filaret regularly meets with representatives of the city authorities of Minsk on issues related to the improvement of the city, the celebration of socially significant events (Victory Day, anniversary of the Chernobyl tragedy, City Day). As a generally recognized head of the school for theological and religious studies, Vladyka Filaret is the founder and Dean of the First Theological Faculty in the CIS (based on the European State University), President of the international public association "Christian Educational Center named after Saints Methodius and Cyril".



VYSOTSKY Mikhail Stepanovich
10.02.1928 - 25.02.2013

Vysotsky Mіkhaіl Stepanovich was General Director of the state scientific institution "Joint Institute of Mechanical Engineering of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus", Chief Designer of Mechanical Engineering in the Republic of Belarus, Hero of Belarus, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Doctor of Engineering Sciences, Professor. The title "Honorary Citizen of the City of Minsk" was awarded for his great personal contribution to the socio-economic, scientific and technical development of the capital of Belarus, motor industry, Belarusian scientific school of engineering and complex design of mobile motor vehicles, development of competitive scientific and engineering designs, their wide use in the work of industrial enterprises of the city of Minsk, his active social work.



GROMOV Alexander Matveyevich
1926 - 1998

Gromov Alexander Matveyevich was Hero of Socialist Labor, Honored Builder of the BSSR. The title "Honorary Citizen of the City of Minsk" was awarded in 1987 by the decision of the Minsk City Council.



GRYGORYEV Ury Panteleymonovich
29.05.1932 - 21.03.2019

The Presidium of the Minsk City Council of Deputies and the Minsk City Executive Committee took their decision to confer the title "Honorary Citizen of the City of Minsk" on Grygoryev Ury Panteleymonovich – First Deputy Chief Architect of the city of Moscow, Director of the State Unitary Enterprise "Moscow Scientific-Reseach and Design Institute of Typology, Experimental Planning", People’s Architect of Russia, Honoured Architect of Belarus, Academician of Architecture – for his great creative work and contribution to the formation of town planning policy and all-round development of the city of Minsk, its archtectural appearance, development of cooperation between the capitals of Russia and Belarus in the sphere of urban planning and construction.



YELIZARYEV Valentin Nikolayevich
30.10.1947

On the 18th of October 2007, at the decisions of the Minsk City Council of Deputies and the Minsk City Executive Committee, the title "Honorary Citizen of the City of Minsk" was conferred on Yelizaryev Valentin Nikolayevich – Director of the State Theatrical and Entertaining Institution "National Great Academic Theatre of Ballet of the Republic of Belarus", Honoured Art Worker of the BSSR, People’s Artist of the USSR and the BSSR, Winner of the State Prize of the Republic of Belarus, Professor of the State Academy of Music – for his active work of many years in the field of the development of the national choreographic art and culture, strengthening of the international prestige of the city of Minsk as a cultural center in Europe, preparation of highly qualified specialists for the Belarusian school of choreography, active socio-political activities.



ZHIZHEL Ivan Matveyevich
1904 - 1982

Zhizhel Ivan Matveyevich was Hero of Socialist Labor, a former Minister of Industrial Construction of the BSSR. The title "Honorary Citizen of the City of Minsk" was awarded in 1969 by the decision of the Minsk City Council.



KOLYCHEV Nikolai Ivanovich
03.11.1918 - 2000

The title "Honorary Citizen of the City of Minsk" was awarded in 1967 (decision of the Minsk City Council of Workers' Deputies of September 14, 1967). Kolychev N.I. - Hero of the Soviet Union, the former commander of a tank platoon who on the 3rd of  July 1944 was one of the first liberators to break into the city along the Moscow highway, and who captured the only surviving bridge across the Svisloch river and did not let the enemy blow it up, which contributed greatly to the rapid liberation of the city.



LAVRINOVICH Mikhail Fiodorovich
01.12.1929 - 09.09.2008

The title "Honorary Citizen of the City of Minsk" was conferred in 1999 at the decision of the Presidium of the Minsk City Council of Deputies of November 23, 1999 (an extract from the minutes of the Minsk City Council of Deputies No. 6); the decision of the Minsk City Executive Committee of November 18, 1999 (an extract from the minutes of the sitting of the Minsk City Executive Committee № 41). Mikhail Fiodorovich Lavrynovich was President of the Belarusian Scientific and Industrial Association; he was also elected Chairman of the Belarusian Confederation of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, Co-chairman of the National Council of Belarus on Labor and Social Issues. Being a member of the Council of of the International Congress of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs M.F. Lavrinovich enjoyed high prestige in the international arena. During his life, almost half a century M.F. Lavrinovich gave  to the Minsk Automobile Plant, having passed the way from a worker to the General Director of the PA "BelavtoMAZ". Under his leadership and with his direct participation there was created a wide range of modern unique Belarusian automotive technology with a capacity from 8 to 250 tons; there was also mastered the production of modern city buses. Today, trucks with a bison on the radiator and the "MAZ" emblem are running on the roads of more than 80   countries. The services renedered by M.F. Lavrinovich were highly appreciated by the Government. He was awarded the Orders of the Red Banner of Labour (twice). Badge of Honour, the Friendship of Peoples. He was the winner of the State Prize of the USSR and the BSSR. He was elected a deputy to the Supreme Soviets of the USSR, the BSSR, and local Soviets. He was awarded the title "Honored Mechanical Engineer of the BSSR".



LOSIK Oleg Aleksandrovich
04.12.1915 - 20.08.2012

The title "Honorary Citizen of the City of Minsk" was awarded in 1987 (decision of the Minsk City Council of People's Deputies of June 26.1987). Losik O.A. was Hero of the Soviet Union, Marshal of the Armoured Forces; he distinguished himself in the battles for the liberation of the city of Minsk. The Brigade commanded by Losik O.A. was awarded the honorary title named after the city of Minsk - "Minskaya". For his great services to the Fatherland, O.A. Losik was awarded two Orders of Lenin, the Order of the October Revolution, three Orders of the Red Banner, and the Orders of Suvorov Third Class, Great Patriotic War First Class, two orders of the Red Star, orders "For Service to the Motherland in the Armed Forces" Second and Third Classes, 16th medals, 23rd orders and medals of foreign countries.



LUCHENOK Igor Mikhailovich
06.08.1938 - 12.11.2018

The title "Honorary Citizen of the City of Minsk" was conferred in 1999 at the decision of the Presidium of the Minsk City Council of Deputies of November 23, 1999, (an extract from the minutes of the sitting of the Minsk City Council of Deputies No. 6); the decision of the Minsk City Executive Committee of November 18, 1999 (an extract from the minutes of the sitting of the Minsk City Executive Committee № 41). Luchenok I.M. - People's Artist of the USSR, chairman of the PA "Belarusian Union of Composers". The first great success and national popularity was brought to him by the ballad-song "Memory of the Heart" composed to the lyrics by M.Yasen and performed by V.Vuyachich, which in 1966 was awarded the first prize at the All-Union Song Contest. For his over 35 years of composing activity, I. Luchenok created large-scale vocal-symphonic canvases, chamber-instrumental compositions, chorals, applied music, which reflected the theme of love for his native city. Among the works of a large form, as well as works of academic genres are: the fantasy "Moi rodny kut", the cantatas "Kurgan" (verses by Y. Kupala) and "Soldier's Heart" (verses by A. Prokofiyev), the poem-legend "Gusliar" (verses by Y. Kupala), symphonies, compositions for chamber, brass, variety orchestras, music for plays, films. He composed about 100  songs to the verses by Y. Kupala "Rodnamu krayu", "Moi rodny kut", "Spadchyna"; G. Buravkin - "Tabe, Belarus", "Zacharovanaya maya", "Matyli"; M. Bogdanovich - "Verashka"; A. Kuleshov - "Alesya", R. Rozhdestvensky - "Yesli b kamni mogli govorit" (If only stones could speak), “I poka na zemle cyshchestruyet liubov” (As long as love exists on Earth), and others. On the 5th of  October, 1999, a star of Igor Luchenok was installed on the Square of Stars in Moscow. For his fruitful creative work in the field of musical art, I.M. Luchenok was awarded the Order of the Badge of Honour, the Friendship of Peoples, Francisk Skaryna. He was the winner of the Lenin Komsomol Prize and the State Prize of the BSSR.



MEDVED Alexander Vasilyevich
16.09.1937

The title "Honorary Citizen of the City of Minsk" was awarded in 1972 (decision of the Minsk City Council of Workers' Deputies of September 14, 1972). Medved A.V. is a seven-time World Champion, three-time Olympic Champion in Freestyle Wrestling, Master of Sports of the USSR, Honored Figure of Physical Culture of the BSSR. For his outstanding sports achievements glorifying Soviet sport, his great work on the promotion and development of physical culture and sports A.V. Medved has been awarded the Order of Lenin, Order of the Red Banner of Labour, the Badge of Honour. Since 1970, there have been held international competitions for the prize of A. Medved in the Republic. Currently, Medved Alexander Vasilyevich is the Head of the Interuniversity Department of Sports Improvement of the Belarusian University of Informatics and Radioelectronics, and is the Vice-president of the National Olympic Committee.



MITSKEVICH Viktor Iosifovich
24.05.1933

The title "Honorary Citizen of the City of Minsk" was conferred in 1999 at the decision of the Presidium of the Minsk City Council of Deputies of September 22, 1999 (an extract from the minutes of the sitting of the Minsk City Council of Deputies No. 4); the decision of the Minsk City Executive Committee of October 21, 1999 (an extract from the minutes of the sitting of the Minsk City Executive Committee № 38). Mitskievich V.I. - Chairman of the Board of OJSC "Trust number 15 "Spetsstroy". He worked for the Trust for more than 40 years, of which he was Manager of the Company for 23 years. For many years, the Trust has been carrying out construction and reconstruction of such vital industries of the city as heat networks, sewers and water lines, streets and roads, water intakes and pumping stations, facilities of the Minsk aeration station and the metro. With his personal participation, there was organized the production of paving slabs, the production of ready-mixed concrete and mortar, reinforced concrete pipes, which made it possible to provide the buildings and facilities of the Trust and the city of Minsk with these materials. For his conscientious work, V. I. Mitskevich has been awarded the Order of the Badge of Honour and medals. He has also been awarded the honorary title "Honoured Builder of the BSSR". For the construction of the Minsk metro Mitskevich V.I. was given the State Prize of the USSR.



OLOVNIKOV Vladimir Vladimirovich
1919 - 1996

Olovnikov V.V. was People's Artist of the BSSR, Honoured Art Worker of the BSSR, composer. The title "Honorary Citizen of the City of Minsk" was awarded to him in 1987 by the decision of the Minsk City Council.



OSIPOVA Mariya Borisovna
27.12.1908 - 1999

Osipova M.B. was Hero of the Soviet Union, a former underground worker in the city of Minsk during the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945). The title "Honorary Citizen of the City of Minsk" was awarded to her in 1968 by the decision of the Minsk City Council.



PAVLOV Mikhail Yakovlevich
01.09.1952 - 06.06.2010

Pavlov M.Y. - Chairman of the Minsk City Executive Committee in the period from 2000 to 2009, Honoured Worker of Industry of the Republic of Belarus, Candidate of Technical Sciences – was awarded the title "Honorary Citizen of the City of Minsk" for his personal contribution to the socio-economic, scientific and technical, and cultural development of the capital of Belarus – the city of Minsk, strengthening of prestige of the city of Minsk in the international arena, his support and development of the constructive cooperation and mutually advantageous relations with other cities and regions.



SAVITSKY Mikhail Andreyevich
18.02.1922 - 2011

The title "Honorary Citizen of the City of Minsk" was awarded in 2001 (the decision of the Presidium of the Minsk City Council of Deputies of October 10, 2001; the decision of the Minsk City Executive Committee of October 30, 2001). Mikhail Andreyevich Savitsky – People’s Artist  of the USSR, People's Artist of the BSSR, academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, as well as of the Russian Academy of Arts, Honoured Art Worker of the BSSR, the Head of Creative Academic Workshops of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic. According to the decision of the Minsk City Executive Committee, the high title "Honorary Citizen of the City of Minsk" was awarded to the artist for his great contribution to the cultural wealth of the Belarusian capital. Savitsky M.A. had to undergo a number of severe ordeals: the years of the Great Patriotic War, a German concentration camp, the difficult post-war years. But his destiny is depicted in the best way by his paintings - "Partizanskaya Madonna", "The Legend of the Old Man Minai", "Children of War", the cycle "Figures in the Heart" and many, many others. These canvases are a requiem to the fallen heroes and a hymn to the patriotism of the Soviet people.



SKURKO Yevgeny Ivanovich

Skurko Y.I. was Hero of Socialist Labor, People's Poet of the BSSR, Academician. The title "Honorary Citizen of the City of Minsk" was awarded to him in 1987 by the decision of the Minsk City Council.



CHERGINETS Nikolai Ivanovich

The title "Honorary Citizen of the City of Minsk" was awarded by the decision of the session of the Minsk City Council of Deputies on December 21, 2017. Cherginets N.I. is a Belarusian writer, politician, honoured worker of culture of the Republic of Belarus. He graduated from the Higher School of Trainers and the Law Faculty of the Belarusian State University, Candidate of Jurisprudence. In the internal affairs bodies he made his way from a police lieutenant to a lieutenant general of internal service. From 1984 to 1987, he performed international duty in Afghanistan. From 1996 to 2008, he was elected three times as a member of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, and headed the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and National Security. In the period from 1988 to 2008 represented our country in the UN. He began his literary activity in 1970 and has become  the author of over 50 books, a number of screenplays and performances. His books have been translated into more than 15 languages ​​of the world; some of them have been included in the list of the best works of the world. In 1998, for diverse achievements in the field of science and culture, his name entered the Guinness Book of Records.He has become a winner of various international awards. He is an honored worker of culture of the Republic of Belarus. For his great services, he has been awarded two Orders of the Red Star, the Order of the Red Banner, the Order of Honour of the Republic of Belarus, the Order of the Fatherland Third Class of the Republic of Belarus, the Orders of the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan "Red Flag" and "For Bravery", the Order of the Yugoslav Star Second Class, the Order of St. Cyril of Turov of the Belarusian Orthodox Church, the Order of the Cross of St. Euphrosyne of Polotsk, the Order of the "Commonwealth" of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the CIS Member States.



SHARAPOV Vasily Ivanovich
1916 - 2017

Sharapov V.I. was a Belarusian statesman. He was a participant in the Great Patriotic War and during the Operation "Bagration" was seriously wounded and lost his leg. In 1944 he became an active Party worker, Chairman of the Minsk City Executive Committee in 1955-1968. With his personal participation, there were created the enterprises "Minskstroy", "Minskvodokanal", "Mingaz" which had a key impact on the development of the infrastructure of the capital of Belarus. Later on, he worked for 14 years as Minister of Construction and Maintenance of Highways of the BSSR. For his great services to the country, Vasily Sharapov was given many highest state awards. 



YANKOVSKY Rostislav Ivanovich
05.02.1930 - 26.06.2016

The title "Honorary Citizen of the City of Minsk" was awarded in 2000 at the decision of the Presidium of the Minsk City Council of Deputies dated January 25, 2000 (an extract from the Minutes of the sitting of the Minsk City Council of Deputies No. 8); the decision of the Minsk City Executive Committee dated January 27, 2000 (an extract from the Minutes of the sitting of the Minsk City Executive Committee No. 4). Yankovsky R.I. - People's Artist of the USSR, leading master of the Gorky State Academic Russian Drama Theater. For 42 years of his work at the State Academic Theater named after M. Gorky, R.I. Yankovsky created over 100 images of classical and modern repertoire. Only in the last years of his life, he played the leading parts in the plays "The Maor Brothers" by F. Schiller, "Bukeyev and Company" by M. Gorky, "Wolves and Sheep" by A. Ostrovsky. For his high professional skills and personal contribution to the development of Belarusian theatrical art, R.I. Yankovsky was awarded the Order of the Badge of Honour, the Order of the Red Banner of Labour, the Order of the Friendship of Peoples, the Order of Francisk Skaryna, the Francisk Skaryna Medal. R.I. Yankovsky became a winner of the State Prize of Belarus.



YARMOLENKO Anatoly Ivanavich
15.11.1947

The title "Honorary Citizen of the City of Minsk" was awarded on October 18, 2007 at the deisions of the Minsk City Council of Deputies and  the Minsk City Executive Committee. Yarmolenko Anatoly Іvanavіch is the Artistic Leader of the Ensemble "Siabry" – detatched structural unit of "Belkontsert" of the Belarusian State Philarmonic Society decorated with the Order of the Red Banner of Labour; Honoured Artist of the BSSR, People’s Artist of Belarus. He was decorated with this highest award for his high professional artistic skill, popularization of the Belarusian singing and musical culture, his great personal contribution to the cultural development in the city of Minsk, sacred and patriotic education of young people, popularization of Belarusian variety art abroad.
