The Minsk International Christmas Festival and Kalyadny Kirmash Fair opened today in the capital.
The Minsk International Christmas Festival will be held until January 10 (from 12.00 to 21.00) in the vicinity of the Sports Palace. On New Year's Eve it will be held from 21.00 on December 31st to 4.00 on January 1st. The Fair is held on two main grounds. On the first ground called Litovsky Dvorik (Lithuanian Yard) there are 15 identical wooden trade chalets imported from Lithuania on the shelves of which one can find products of Baltic popular craftwork items: felting products, souvenir pottery, amber, forged products, Christmas decorations. On the second ground which is also equipped with 15 identical stalls decorated in the style of the New Year, visitors of the holiday sale can find pottery, camel wool, bamboo, silk, linen, souvenirs, wicker furniture made of twigs, halva, honey from the Belarusian and Russian producers . Here Minsk residents and its visitors can enjoy Tula gingerbread with hot tea from a wood-burning samovar. For younger visitors there operates Christmas Santa Claus post office. From here letters can be sent to the wizard in Bialowieza Forest.
Rows of stalls of "Kalyadny Kirmash" Fair which is to be held until January 15 have been lined up in Oktyabrskaya Square and near the Sports Palace. Here daily from 12.00 to 21.00 visitors can not only buy Christmas gifts and sweets, but also participate in various entertainments.
All in all more than 50 Christmas fairs are to be held in Minsk in December and January. On December 25, festivities at which there will be a wide range of Christmas tree decorations, souvenirs, festive packages, carnival costumes and foodstuffs will be held in all administrative districts of the city. A large Christmas fair called New Year Padarunak will also be held at the Sports Palace on December 25 from 10.00 to 21.00.
