3 September 2017 → Festival of friendship of Belarus and Italy was held in the Upper City

A Festival of friendship between Belarus and Italy was held in the Upper City on September 3, the "Minsk-Novosti" Agency correspondent reports.

The Minsk citizens and guests of the city who had  gathered for the Festival  were greeted by the Chairman of the Minsk City Executive Committee Andrei Shorets:

"Today we have a great opportunity to get closer to Italy, to join its culture, cuisine, customs and traditions. I am sure that the participants and guests of the Festival will receive a lot of positive emotions”.

The Mayor also expressed his gratitude to the representatives of the Italian Embassy in the Republic of Belarus and personally to the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Italian Republic Stefano Bianchi for organizing the Festival in Minsk.

The Day of national Italian culture is being held in the Belarusian capital for the second time. But this year is a special one: it has been declared a Year of Italian Culture in Belarus.

"The first stage of it has already been over, and we are very pleased with its results. Among other things, in October Belarusians are expecting a week of the Italian language, and this year it will be devoted to the theme of cinema. Within the framework of this week there will be both events aimed at a wide audience, as well as special seminars designed for connoisseurs of the Italian language. Another important event will be a week of Italian cuisine which is dedicated to the theme of the combination of food and wine, because this is the quintessence of Italian style and way of life. It will be attended by food producers, catering establishments and everyone who is somehow related to Italian cuisine in Belarus", S. Bianchi said.

The ambassador also announced other events that Minsk residents will have an opportunity to attend this autumn. Thus, during the festival "TeArt" Director Emma Dante and her troupe will present on the stage of the House of Culture of the Minsk Automobile Plant the play "The Sisters of Macaluso". Besides, Italian flutists are also expected to play their music at the festival of Yuri Bashmet. The Year of Italian Culture will end with a gala concert in the Belarusian State Philharmonic.

"All these events have become an essential link in strengthening cooperation between our states. And we hope that, by laying this foundation, our friendship will only be strengthened", S. Bianchi noted.

According to him, in recent years Belarus and Italy have seen an upswing in economic cooperation too: for example, in the first quarter of this year alone, the trade turnover between our countries increased by 28% as compared to the same period last year.

The Festival opened with the performance of the honored amateur collective "Dudariki". The battalion "Tambourinists from Ontranto" took over the baton from the Belarusian ensemble.

Under cheerful musical rhythms, the guests of the Festival could taste some cheeses produced by the Belarusian trade mark "Bonfesto", select perfume from the joint Belarusian-Italian enterprise "Belita" or taste Italian wines.

Catering establishments of the capital had prepared dishes of traditional cuisine of the Apennine peninsula: pasta, risotto, antipasto (a snack prepared from meat and seafood, and also from specially prepared vegetables).

Not far off there were demonstrated the novelties of the Italian car industry - the Fiat and the Maserati which had just come off the assembly line.

The youngest guests of the Festival had a chance to participate in the contest of children's drawings. For those who want to learn the language of this beautiful southern country, the presentation of their services had been prepared by the language schools of the capital and the House of Italian Language and Culture "Dante". There was also organized a drawing of certificates for a free course of Italian training.

Near the City Hall there was also held an exhibition of photo landscapes of Italy and a thematic exhibition of paintings by the artist Pavel Kondrusiewicz.

For reference:

Currently, about two hundred people from the Apennine peninsula live in Belarus.
