21 September 2019 → Festival of Greek culture was held in the Upper City

On September 21, a festival of Greek culture was held in the Upper City, the "Minsk-Novosti" Agency correspondent reports.

"Kalimera!" the Chairman of the Belarusian Public Association of Greeks "Peloponnese" Rafael Dalyanov welcomed the audience. "I thank everyone who was not afraid of the rain and came to the Upper City".

Greeks and Belarusians are united by cordiality, hospitality, rich cultural traditions. Such festivals unite our peoples, strengthen friendship between our countries.

The Honorary Consul of Greece in Belarus Pavel Topuzidis emphasized that the Festival in the Upper City is a unique opportunity to get acquainted with the culture of Hellas.

Despite the inclement weather, spectators had gathered in front of the stage at the Upper City concert hall. Standing under umbrellas, they listened to soulful Greek songs, enjoyed dancing.

"In my youth I worked in Greece," pensioner Pavel Petrovich said. "More than four decades has passed, but I still remember those times with nostalgia: the sun, the sea, the beautiful Aphrodites ... Sirtaki has reminded me of that time."

An exposition of literature was arranged at the walls of the City Hall. An exhibition of paintings by the Greek artist Paul Dimitriadi opened quite nearby.. The guests examined with interest the landscapes filled with the sun, exchanged their impressions.

During the ceremony of opening the Festival, the flag of Greece was solemnly brought out and placed on the square: everyone was photographed.

"Of course, the weather isn’t at all good," stated Sergei Chizh from Minsk. "It means that Zeus is angry today. But the taste of souvlaki and moussaka has not been affected by bad weather. The participants in the event are in nice mood and friends from Russia like the holiday: such festivals are not arranged in Russia."

Medea Hursulidi, Greek singer, Ksenia Georgiadzi , Honoured singer from Russia, and other performers participated in the concert that took place on the main stage at the Upper City concert hall.
