20 December 2017 → Minsk and St. Petersburg will build "symmetric" residential neighborhoods
On December 19, in St. Petersburg, in the Central Exhibition Hall "Manege" there was held a ceremony of summarizing the architectural and urban contests for the development of the concept of building "symmetric" housing projects - the "Belarusian Quarter" in St. Petersburg and the "St. Petersburg Quarter" in Minsk. The ceremony was attended by the Chairman of the Minsk City Executive Committee Andrei Shorets and the Governor of St. Petersburg Georgy Poltavchenko.
The concepts of residential quarters had been developed by design institutes and architectural bureaus of Minsk and St. Petersburg. In total, 5 projects from each side were submitted for the competition. It is about developing the urban environment, creating comfortable neighborhoods with social housing, green areas and the necessary infrastructure. The participants in the contest had also tried to reflect the architectural features, styles and images of the two capitals.
Following the meeting of the expert council and the jury which included Belarusian and St. Petersburg experts, the names of the winners were announced. Among the Minsk projects the first place was won by the concept of "Zhuravli" created by JSC "Institute" Minskgrazhdanproekt ". The "Belarusian quarter" will be built in Polustrovo.
Among the projects presented by St. Petersburg for Minsk, the concept of "Studio-17" by Svyatoslav Gaikovich was recognized as the best.
Congratulating the winners, Andrey Shorets thanked all the participants in the contest and expressed his hope that the concepts would be implemented in the shortest time possible. Georgy Poltavchenko noted that the implementation of projects in St. Petersburg and Minsk should begin in the very near future. "The main thing is to translate the projects into reality. We have the will, the desire, and the opportunities for this", the Governor emphasized.
Andrei Shorets and Georgy Poltavchenko got acquainted with the photo exhibition in the Manege dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus.
The "symmetrical" contests for the development of the concept of the architectural and urban design of the "Belorussian quarter" in St. Petersburg and the "St. Petersburg quarter" in Minsk were organized by the Committee for Urban Development and Architecture and the Committee for Construction in conjunction with the Committee on Architecture and Urban Planning of the Minsk City Executive Committee. The decision to hold the contests was taken as a result of the visit of the delegation of St. Petersburg to Minsk in 2016.
