6 March 2018 → At the Junior World Cup 2018 in basketball, the Belarusians will play against the teams of France, Japan and Colombia

The Minsk Town Hall has hosted the ceremony of drawing the junior World Basketball Championship which will be held in Minsk in the summer of 2018, the "Minsk-Novosti" Agency correspondent reports.

The event was attended by First Deputy Head of the Administration of the President of the Republic of Belarus, Chairman of the Belarusian Basketball Federation Maxim Ryzhenkov, Deputy Chairman of the Minsk City Executive Committee Igor Yurkevich and representatives of the International Basketball Federation.



"A couple of years ago we could not even dream of getting the right to hold such a tournament," said V. Ryzhenkov. "But thanks to the success of our women's team at the main starts of the year, Minsk will host the World Cup. I am sure that in the competition with the strongest teams the Belarusian team will achieve good results, the audience and fans will be pleased with our basketball teamse," he added.

I. Yurkevich, in his turn, emphasized that Minsk had hosted top tournaments in various sports.



They promise that the upcoming Junior World Basketball Championship will be held at the highest level. The guests of the championship will be able not only to see the intense matches of the tournament, but also to get acquainted with the city and its sights.

During the drawing ceremony, the Olympic champion of 1980 Tatyana Beloshapko and the bronze prize winner of the European Championships - 2007 Tatyana Troina were in the centre of the attention. With the help of the former basketball players, four quartet members were formed: 16 teams of the world learned their rivals in the group stage of the competition.













The Belarusian national team will play in the "A" group, and the competitors of our girls will be the members of the teams from France, Japan and Colombia. The composition of other groups is as follows:

"B": USA, Italy, China, Mali;

"C": Hungary, Spain, Argentina, New Zealand;

«D»: Australia, Latvia, Canada, Angola.

The World Cup matches will be held from July 21 to 29, 2018. The Matches will take place in the Palace of Sports and in the arena of the Falcon Club. The participants in the tournament will be girls no older than 17 years.

The Belarusian team is trained on the basis of the Grodno School of the Olympic Reserve. The team is trained by Head Coach Victoria Datsun and Assistant Valentina Navoichik.
