15 August 2018 → The festival of Georgian culture "Tbilisoba" will be held in the Upper City on September 1

The festival of Georgian culture "Tbilisoba" will be held in the Upper City on September 1. This was said by Valery KVARATSKHELIA, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to the Republic of Belarus, at a press conference held on August 15, "Minsk-Novosti" Agency correspondent reports..

This year Minsk citizens will be offered a rich program, which in many respects will differ from the events of the past years.

“This year, Georgia celebrates the 100th anniversary of its independence, so at “Tbilisoba” we want to share with the Belarusians what we are really proud of, the country's main achievements. We will show all the best that we have today in Georgia. Among the guests of the Festival there will be outstanding people who are known throughout the world. Among them there will also be the present Mayor of Tbilisi Kakha KALADZE.. On the main stage of the Festival, there will appear "Georgian Voices" and the legendary song and dance ensemble "Erisioni". The headliner will be the famous actress Nino KATAMADZE, " V. Kvaratskhelia said. “If last year "Tbilisoba" was visited by about 50 thousand people, then this year we expect it will be attended by 100 thousand people”, he continued.

“We are going to collect all the best we had at the previous festivals of “Tbilisoba" and try to surprise the guests with new entertainments. Specially for the 100th anniversary of Georgia's independence, we have prepared a list of 100 events to be shown at the Festival which will help Minskers not only better understand the history and culture of Georgia, but will also inspire them for courageous actions, realize their desires, in general, live for 100,” added the Director of the IDS Borjomi, Belarusian citizen, Denis KRUPETS.”.

This year, for the first time, there will be organized a tourist bazaar where tourist companies will acquaint Minsk citizens with the sights of Georgia, will show what can be done during their trip to Georgia, and offer profitable vouchers. The most determined Belarusians will be able to arrange an unusual tour right at the Festival. At the lecture site, travelers and travel bloggers will tell the participants how to conquer Kazbek, which rivers are best for rafting, where traditional Georgian wine is made and much more.

"We will present the Belarusians with a new Georgia, a country that is actively developing and being introduced into the international community," said Gabriel KUPATADZE, representative of the Georgian cultural and educational society “Mamuli”. “There will also be music and gastronomy culture. On a separate stage, there will present their art creative teams of the Georgian diasporas who live in Belarus. There will be an interactive program. For example, Minskers will be able to sing karaoke with highlanders on backing vocals. We will organize many interesting sites. Those who wish will be able to have their hair painted in the colors of the Georgian flag. Of course, there will also be a big food court. This year, many Georgian restaurants have expressed their desire to participate in the Festival, so there should be enough food for everyone, he continued.

The Festival will be held on a large-scale: festivities will be held beyond Svobody Square; they will cover the whole Upper City, up to the river Svisloch.

“The authorities of the city have agreed to meet the wishes of the organizers of the Festival and expanded the site to Zybitskaya and the Svisloch embankment, so that people could rest comfortably. The time period of the events has been prolonged until midnight. In connection with this, we will increase the number of rolling stock on the routes of overland public transport and the underground in the evening," said Deputy Chairman of the Minsk City Executive Committee Igor YURKEVICH. “ Four years ago “Tbilisoba” was the first festival to start celebrating national cultures in the Upper City, and the Festival of Georgia is the largest. Those who have had a chance to visit the event and feel its atmosphere understands that it is impossible not to fall in love with this country,” he added..

“Tbilisoba” Festival has been celebrated since 1979 in Tbilisi. It is dedicated to harvesting and the capital of Georgia. Initially it was just a holiday of labor. Over time, it became popular not only in our country, but also beyond its borders, " V. Kvaratskhelia stressed.
