20 December 2019 → A delegation from Chisinau met with the leadership of Minsk in the capital

A business meeting of a delegation from Chisinau with the leadership of the capital was held in Minsk, the correspondent of the "Minsk-Novosti" Agency reports.

As part of the meeting, they discussed the installation of a monument to the Hero of the Soviet Union Ivan Soltys in Minsk. According to the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Moldova to Belarus, Victor Sorochan, the documents are subject to approval by the President of Moldova. This is a landmark event for the country. The Belarusian capital is the only city, excluding Chisinau itself, in the expanses of the former Soviet Union, where there is a street named after Ivan Soltys. The monument to the Moldavian hero is planned to be placed at the intersection of Soltys and Vaupshasov streets.

Viktor Sorochan also expressed hope that the idea of assigning one of the streets in Minsk to the name of another native of this state - Hero of the Soviet Union Sergey Bulgarin, will be supported. He distinguished himself in the battles for the liberation of Belarus during the Great Patriotic War, for which he received this title.

Chisinau Vice Mayor for Urban Development and Urban Mobility Victor Chironda noted that a new leadership has been elected in the city, which will have to solve a wide range of problems. One of them is the development of public transport. The administration of the Moldavian capital plans to improve the route network and expand the fleet of trolleybuses. They want to complete the transfer to autonomous cars so that they can serve areas where there is no contract network. Changes will also affect Chisinau bus fleet. After all, the city wants to completely exclude fixed-route taxis, because they have exhausted themselves as public transport. The task is to buy new buses, commercial offers on their deliveries from Belarusian manufacturers can also be considered.. They also need specialized municipal and road equipment.

"Post-Soviet cities have similar problems. Therefore, we focus on the same in terms of infrastructure, the mentality of people ... Why reinvent something, and repeat mistakes if you can learn from experience, " he said.

Deputy Chairman of the Minsk City Executive Committee Alexander Krepak shared with the guests how the Belarusian capital is solving the problem of outdated rolling stock:

"We draw up a plan to replace old cars with new ones, review routes to create more optimal ones. The system is not perfect, but new elements are constantly being introduced. As for minibuses, we cannot completely refuse them, but we streamline and control their work’.

In addition, he spoke about the reform of the housing and communal services, the work with household waste, the interaction of urban services during natural disasters (flooding during heavy rains and heavy snowfalls) and other housing and communal services projects implemented in the Belarusian capital.

Next year, Minsk and Chisinau will celebrate the 20th Anniversary of twinning. The parties agreed that taking this date into account, it is possible to conduct a holiday of Moldavian culture in a special way. It is scheduled for August.

For reference

This year, the turnover between the capitals is about 90 million dollars. Service exports predominate; growth in 2018 was more than 20%. 48 companies with Moldovan capital operate in Minsk.
